Town of Raymond council meeting briefs from Oct. 1

The following are select briefs from the Town of Raymond Council meeting that took place on October 1.

Health Advisory Council

Council reviewed a letter sent to Chief Administrative Officer Kurtis Pratt from the Advisory Councils Secretariat that was previously reviewed at the last Council Committee meeting on September 17, 2024. The Advisory Councils Secretariat, Council established, reached out to seek  interest from municipally elected leaders in the community of Raymond to join a regional advisory council, the council’s aim being to better reflect local voices, bring forward local priorities and provide input on how to improve the health care system, and council members will advise government and the new primary care, acute care, continuing care, and mental health and addiction provincial health agencies on clinical service planning, capital planning and workforce planning. Council acknowledged that interested municipal representatives can send their information to the Advisory Councils Secretariat at health.rac@gov.ab.ca by October 11, 2024and any questions can be directed to 780-217-5713 or through email. After reviewing the letter, Mayor Jim Depew acknowledged that Councillor/Deputy Mayor Allen Tollestrup had previously expressed interest in becoming part of the Advisory Board and ultimately, a motion was made that Councillor Tollestrup be appointed to the Health Advisory Council and the motion was carried.

Deputy Director of Emergency Management Appointment – Kyle Clifton

Council discussed appointing Kyle Clifton as an additional Deputy Director of Emergency Management to serve as another experienced body to assist Director of Emergency Management Chad Coppieters and Deputy Director of Emergency Management Ken Steed. A motion was made to appoint Kyle Clifton as an additional Deputy Director of Emergency Management and the motion was carried. 

Stampede Grounds Events Committee

Council reviewed the Stampede Grounds Events Committee that the Council Committee discussed at the September 17, 2024, Council Committee meeting. Kassidy Stevens, Legislative Services and RSIT Coordinator for the Town of Raymond, explained that the committee would be basically to try and attract more events outside of July 1st rodeo to the Stampede Grounds, and since the Terms of Reference were last seen, it was updated to include everyone as discussed and also include Karen Wilde as the Administrative Support for the committee. A motion was made to approve the committee and the motion was carried.
