Demonstrators were outside Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz’s office on May 22, calling on their federal representative to advocate for those in Gaza.
“It’s an issue that’s weighed on my heart for some time now,” said Medicine Hat resident Sarah Stringer, who had organized the event.
The small group stood outside the office with signs calling for a firmer stance against the conditions for Palestinian people, and to stop providing arms to Israel.
“We just want our government to stop arming Israel. And on one hand, they’re arming Israel, and on the other hand, they’re trying to get aid into Gaza. It just doesn’t make sense to me that they would do both,” said Stringer.
Their goal, said Stringer, was to raise awareness and call more residents to action to make the opinion of the city known to those who speak for them on the federal level.
“I want the public to join us in this fight, because I don’t think it’s just our fight. I think it’s all of our fight. If we don’t fight this now, our children are going to have to fight this and our grandchildren, and I think we need to stop it while we can,” said Stringer.
