Stirling Fall Festival this Saturday

The 17th annual Stirling Fall Festival will be from 3-9 p.m. at the Stirling Reunion Centre on Saturday, Sept. 19.

Village of Stirling Chief Administrative Officer Scott Donselaar noted that there will be a variety of activities available at the event, including henna tattoos, bouncy castles, a handmade mini market, wagon rides, a fall photo spot, a petting zoo presented by the Silver Saddle Club, and spike ball, 9 square, hacky sack, and ring toss.

The festival, Donselaar explained, will also feature a Village Harvest Showcase, which begins at 4 p.m. and will be a competition with categories in Jams and Preserves, Salsa, Pickled Foods, Fall Baking, Flowers and Fall Blooms, and Best Squash. Judging for that showcase, Donselaar says, will take place at 5 p.m. and be followed by a pie eating contest that will have youth and adult categories.

Those who are interested in entering the competitions, Donselaar said, can register at the Village of Stirling Office at office@stirling.ca or at 403-756-3379.

From 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., Donselaar continued to say, there will be offerings of free homemade root beer and one homemade donut per person and that will be followed by a pulled pork dinner that will be prepared by Stirling 3rd Ward and costs $4 a plate.

Village of Stirling Deputy Mayor Stacey Maynes added that ‘Light Up The Night’ will wrap up the evening at 9 p.m. and will involve people taking a fall walk from the pool parking lot to the kiosk with glow sticks that will ‘light up the night’ for the walkers.

“We hope the community comes out,” said Deputy Mayor Maynes. “We’re looking forward to visiting with everybody and having a fun time.

Deputy Mayor Maynes said that the festival wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of numerous volunteers and the efforts of the Village’s Activities Committee: herself, Jenna Smith, Jessica Thielen, and Camille Tidmarsh.

“I’m a strong believer in free community events as it allows participation from all demographics in the community and allows people to interact together in a fun way, which creates a strong sense of community spirit and collaboration,” said Donselaar.
