Zeniths lose close one to Cardston

Posted on February 27, 2014 by Westwind Weekly

The Magrath Zeniths lost last Friday fro the second straight game, dropping its record to 6-3 and its position in the standings to third.

Magrath had four players scoring in double digits in the high-scoring affair, but Cardston’s Tanner Quinton led all scorers with 27 points.

Still, Magrath’s Derek Strate had 24 of his own, with Austin Bennett chipping in 18, team leading scorer Tim McMahon adding 13 and Carter Hansen adding 12.

Despite the minor slump, the Zeniths remain in the upper tier for the second portion of the season and will face the league’s elite the rest of the way. With aspirations of making the provincial tournament in March, that is the only way to make sure you’re at your best when it matters most.

It will also give the team an excellent shot at redemption, as three of the next four games come against the three teams to have beaten Magrath this season — Winston Churchill (Friday), Cardston (March1) and Hat High (March 7).

Friday’s matchup with WCH is a home game, starting at 8 p.m.
