Hockey teams throughout southern Alberta shook off the holiday doldrums and took to the ice last weekend as the holiday break officially concluded.
For the Raymond U11 squad, action got underway on Saturday in Redcliff, as the visitors fell by a score of 10-1. Cooper Rodeback had the lone Raymond goal, as Tripp Durfey and Klay Koopmans drew the assists.
Remington Jardine and Jordan Shmidt split goaltending duties.
On Sunday, Raymond was blanked 6-0 in Lethbridge. Jardine was in net for Raymond, as the team’s shooters were snakebitten, as Lethbridge’s goalie turned aside all 22 shots.
Magrath’s U11s earned a 9-1 win over Picture Butte in a game on Friday, as Gibson Bates had three goals and one assist. Ty Mehew also had a hat trick, as both Grayson Owens and Payke Bates added a goal and an assist. Brody Koci picked up a single goal, while Chase Ririe and Weston Odland had assists.
Tymen Allsop picked up the win in net.
Magrath kept rolling on Saturday with a 7-4 win over Vulcan, as Bates and Carter Juhasz led the way with two goals each. Owens added two helpers, as single goals were recorded by Mehew, Bates and Andrew Woolf. Odland, Kacey Blackmore and Heagan Mohr all had one assist each.
Allsop was the winning goaltender of record.
On the U13 scene, Raymond picked up a 4-3 win on Sunday over Fort Macleod. Carter Harris led the way with a goal and an assist, while Brixton Crow Chief, Eddie Little Shields and Trigger Heggie recorded singles. Checotah Many Grey Horses, Hayes Hill, R.J. Moline and Kalani Purcell all had one assist each.
Purcell also picked up the win in net.
Magrath’s U15 squad dropped a pair of weekend games, which included an 8-3 loss to Redcliff on Saturday. Bronson Ripley had a goal and two assists and Easton Fraser picked up a goal and assisted on another. Cohen Brady Michel had two assists, Dayson Loose picked up a goal and Tason Heath added an assist.
Ashton Jensen was in goal for Magrath.
On Sunday, Magrath dropped a 5-2 decision to Picture Butte. Fraser and Ryder Harrison had the Magrath goals, while Heath picked up an assist.
Kohlman Blackmore played in net for Magrath.
The Magrath U18 team continues to hold down first place in its division after a 6-2 win on Saturday over Nanton. Blake Roe led the offence with three goals and one assist, while Ross Ravoy had a goal and two assists. Cruz Johnson had a goal and an assist and Rushton Ripley chipped in with a pair of helpers. Ty Godlonton scored once and Merek Neilson, Adam Chipman and Logan Jensen added assists.
Powell David Ford Jr. was between the pipes for Magrath.
Magrath’s U9 Chiefs played the Fort Macleod Mavericks on Saturday and beat them 9-2. Leading the way was Liam Stanford with six goals and Cody Beier with thee. It was a strong start to 2024 for the Chiefs.
