Magrath and Raymond teams compete for CAHL playoff glory

Playoffs are underway for local teams in the Central Alberta Hockey League.

Raymond’s U11 squad opened playoff action Saturday in Raymond against Nanton and fell by a score of 6-5.

Houstin Hill, Cooper Rodeback, Max Walburger, Stetson Nelson and Tripp Durfey had the goals, while Mark Chipman added an assist. Remington Jardine was in goal.

The U11 team out of Magrath also kicked off its playoff schedule on Saturday and dropped a tight 3-2 decision to Crowsnest Pass. Gibson Bates and Brody Koci both had a goal and an assist, while Tymen Allsop made 28 saves in net.

Sunday’s game in Crowsnest Pass saw Magrath drop a 6-3 decision.

Bates, Koci and Carter Juhasz had the goals, while Heagan Mohr and Andrew Woolf recorded assists. Allsop made 39 saves.

Raymond’s U13 team skated to a 2-2 playoff tie on Saturday in Brooks. Tanner Wells and Trigger Heggie had the goals, while Carter Harris and Kraden Heath earned assists. Kalani Purcell made 45 stops in net to preserve the draw.

Sunday’s game resulted in a 5-2 Brooks victory. Wells had a goal and an assist, Hays Hill added a single and Harris had one assist. Purcell turned aside 35 shots.

In U15 action, Magrath fell 7-3 to Fort Macleod in a Saturday contest. Beau Beier, Tason Heath and Nixon Roe had the goals, while Bronson Ripley and Colton Olson had assists. Ashton Jensen made 30 saves in net.

The two teams battled again on Sunday to a 2-2 draw. Beier had a goal and an assist, Easton Fraser recorded a goal and Olson and Ripley added assists. Kohlman Blackmore made 29 saves.

The Magrath U18 team earned a first-round playoff bye and will take on will take on Foothills in the semifinals.

The U9 Magrath Chiefs played the Foremost Flyers on Saturday and lost 5-3, despite a strong team effort. Leading the way was Cody Beier with a hat trick. Raylen Owens was in net.

The Chiefs played the Raymond Knights last Saturday and defeated them 6-0. Leading the way was Liam Stanford with a hat trick. Beier and Davyn Gillam each had two assists. Kolten Baldwin, Charlie Christensen and Nathan Wilde all notched single goals. Owens was in net for the shutout.
