The Raymond Comets high school football team is off to the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association 5A semi-final.

In the quarters, No. 2 Raymond made quick work of the No. 7 ranked Notre Dame Pride by a score of 52-14.

Now, the Comets prepare for a familiar foe, as the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute Rams await Raymond in the semis. LCI, ranked No. 6 going in, advanced with a 39-27 upset win over the No. 3 St. Francis Browns.

On Saturday at home in Raymond, the Comets wasted little time in putting the boots to Notre Dame, as Raymond scored early in the first quarter on a 35-yard scoring run, with 10:54 still on the clock.

A single point on a missed field goal from 45 yards out made it 8-0, and later in the first, Raymond had a 29-yard field goal blocked, which kept the contest a one-score game.

It stayed that way until the second quarter, when Raymond ran in a 14-yard major with 8:44 left in the half to make it 15-0.

A four-yard TD run with 5:31 left in the half made it 22-0, and the route was on.

For good measure, Raymond added a 44-yard strike through the air on a second and two with only 1:14 left in the half.

Raymond would also add a late field goal, as the Comets went into the locker room with a huge 32-0 advantage.

A 13-yard TD run with 8:39 left in the third made it 39-0, and a 34-yard major through the air later in the quarter made it 46-0 Comets.

Notre Dame scored on a long TD run on a third-and-four play late in the third quarter to give the team its first major.

Raymond earned that touchdown back early in the fourth quarter on a beautiful 32-yard pass into the endzone to make it 52-7.

Notre Dame added a late touchdown on a 37-yard strike through the air with only 1:11 left on the clock.

It was all academic from there, as the Comets advanced to the semis against LCI.

The winner of the Comets-Rams contest will face either No. 1 Harry Ainlay or No. 4 Ernest Manning. Ainlay advanced with a massive 63-0 victory over the No. 8 Notre Dame Cougars, while Manning defeated No. 5 Spruce Grove by a score of 39-15.
