It looks like there’s just no stopping the Raymond Comets.
For the second straight week, the high school football team trounced the No. 1 ranked 4A team in Alberta. First, it was the Holy Trinity Knights that fell prey to Raymond and last week, it was the George McDougall Mustangs, who suffered a massive 63-17 loss to Raymond.
For both 4A teams, the only blemishes on their records are losses to the Comets, losses which dropped Holy Trinity to No. 2 in the rankings and Goerge McDougall to No. 3. Raymond, now 4-1 on the year, still sits second in the 5A rankings, just behind 5-0 Harry Ainlay, as the
Titans stayed unbeaten with a 20-10 win over Salisbury.
For the Comets, the offensive explosion against McDougall was the team’s fourth straight dominant victory. Brody Beazer, Cody Harris, Gunner Nelson, Seth Harding, Dash Harker and Thomas Walburger all scored touchdowns for the Comets.
“We played well,” said Comets coach Connor Ralph, who added aside from an incredibly efficient offence, his defence also came ready to play.
“Cody Harris also had an interception. Reggie Salmon looked good on some tackles in the second half.”
Now halfway through the regular season, with the season-opening loss to Ainlay as the only blemish on the team’s record, Ralph added his team has put a focus on improving every week.”
“We have just been sticking to the process and trying to get better,” said the coach.
That process continues this week, as the Comets prepare for a big game against Cardston, as the teams will clash Saturday in Raymond at 5 p.m.
“Cardston will be a fun game,” said Ralph, of the rivalry contest that will see the No. 3 ranked Cougars, who are in the 3A division, try and score a massive upset. “Being the favourite can be tricky but hopefully we will be able to use the advantage of our home crowd and stay focused.”
