Hockey teams gear up for holiday and break in CAHL schedule

It’s almost time for the holidays, which brings an opportunity for local hockey teams to take a breather as we head into 2024.

But before the calendar flips, Central Alberta Hockey League teams continued play last weekend as the regular season rolls on.

The U11 team out of Magrath took a 3-1 decision over Fort Macleod on Sunday, as Gibson Bates scored all three goals for the winning side. Tymen Allsop was solid in goal, as he made 16 saves for the victory.

Raymond’s U11 squad dropped an 8-3 decision to Pincher Creek on Sunday. Cooper Rodeback had a goal and an assist to pace the Raymond attack, as Stetson Nelson and Klay Koopmans also scored. Max Walburger added one assist. Remington Jardine and Jordan Schmidt shared goaltending duties.

In U13 play, Raymond and Lethbridge skated to a 4-4 draw on Saturday, as Carter Harris and Tanner Wells both had two goals each. Kraden Heath and Jack Patrick Salmon had one assist each. Kalani Purcell faced 30 shots on goal in the Raymond net.

Magrath’s U15 team faced off against Brooks in a Saturday contest and fell by a score of 5-3. Easton Fraser scored twice for Magrath, and Colton Olson added a goal and an assist. Tason Heath added two helpers, while Ryder Harrison had a single assist. Ashton Jensen faced 44 shots as he held the fort in net for Magrath.

The U18 team in Magrath continues to hold down first place in the Tier 3 Blue Division with a 5-1 record, as the team earned another league win on Saturday, this time in the form of a 3-0 blanking of Pincher Creek. Kyson Johnson led the Magrath offence with two goals, as Ross Ravoy added a single. Luke Rodeback and Blake Roe had assists. Conner Schneyder made 20 saves for the shutout, as Magrath fired 52 shots on Pincher’s goaltender.

The U9 Magrath Chiefs played the Foremost Flyers on Friday night and won 9-3. Scoring for the Chiefs was Cody Beier with five goals and one assist. Liam Stanford had three goals and Cooper Seward had one goal and one assist.

On Saturday the Chiefs played the Pincher Creek Chinooks and won 11-0. Leading the way was Liam Stanford with three goals and one assist. Cody Beier had three goals and Cooper Seward had two goals. Kolten Baldwin, Nik Wood and Charlie Christensen all notched single goals. Davyn Gillam and Dillon Juhasz chipped in with an assist each. Raylan Owens finished the game with a shutout in net.
