A 31-year-old man was in court yesterday (Wednesday) to face a number of charges in connection to an attempted armed robbery over the weekend.
Sunday morning at approximately 6:30 a.m., a lone man approached a man sleeping in his vehicle in Spring Coulee and attempted to take the vehicle at gunpoint, according to the RCMP.
The occupant of the vehicle managed to flee in his vehicle, with incident, as the RCMP responded and a vehicle pursuit began.
Police were led on a chase on country roads around the Magrath area, and when the suspect’s vehicle entered The Town of Magrath, police lost sight of it.
A short time later, RCMP located the vehicle on 1st St West near the Highway 5 intersection, after it had collided with a vehicle that was southbound on 1st St West.
The man driving the suspect vehicle was arrested at the scene of the collision, according to the RCMP.
The woman who was driving the second vehicle was taken to hospital with unknown injuries.
Justin Wade Bourgon, 31, of no fixed address, was charged with 12 criminal-code offence, and was remanded in custody to appear in court for a show-cause hearing. Results of the hearing were unknown at press time.
On May 18 at approximately 11:45 a.m. Raymond/Magrath emergency services responded to a two-vehicle motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Hwy 5 and Hwy 62.
One person was removed from the scene by paramedics as a precaution and was released a short time later with minimal injuries. No other injuries occurred.
Local RCMP would like to remind motorists to take extra caution while traveling due to the increase in summer traffic volume.
