One happy local is counting her lucky stars and will soon be choosing a popular destination for her and husband to celebrate their anniversary.

Karen Berger, won a $3000 travel voucher, in where she and her husband can travel anywhere they please, from Rooster’s Country Market Place in Magrath.

Berger wasn’t at home when owner, Jay Mackenzie, called with the exciting news and had a hard time believing her husband, who delivered her with the news.

“I was very nervous and I didn’t believe it,” said Berger. “I thought it was a joke for about a week, I thought my husband was pulling a joke on me.”

Berger and her husband will soon be celebrating their 11th wedding anniversary and what makes this extra special for the couple is they’ve never got to go on a honeymoon.

“I’m very excited. I’ve never gone a trip before and I’ve never won anything before. I’m nervous, but really excited about it,” said Berger.

She and her husband have discussed staying in Canada and going to Niagara Falls, which is where her parents went on their honeymoon.

They have also been discussing the idea of going to Mexico, but are still tossing around ideas.

All she knows right now is how appreciative she is of having the chance to take a vacation with her husband and is really enjoying the whole thing.

“I am so grateful for this opportunity. Jay’s a very nice man and I really am thankful to have a store like this in town,” said Berger.

For Mackenzie, it was just a pleasure providing the couple with this wonderful gift and is always happy to give back to the people who continue to support his store.

“It’s like a dream come true for an owner of a business, to be able to reward one of their costumers with something this incredible and when you hear her story behind it, there isn’t much more you can ask for,” said Mackenzie.

This draw was part of an ongoing series of contests that has been happening with all  Canadian Federation of Independent Grocers.

They’re contests where the stores get to show their appreciation towards its customers by giving back.
