The office of Health Minister Adriana LaGrange says that Budget 2025 includes $1 million for the planning of the replacement of the current Cardston Health Centre.
“As one of the oldest health facilities in the province, this funding will help advance the planning process, making the project eligible for capital funding in future budgets,” reads a statement from Minister LaGrange’s office. “These funds are part of Alberta’s capital plan, and are not being allocated through a grant. Additionally, the Cardston Health Centre will receive funds from the Diagnostic Imaging Enhancement Program to replace outdated equipment.”
The Milk River Health Center, Minister LaGrange’s office says, is also being evaluated as part of the first phase of the new Rural Hospital Enhancement Program, which is receiving $15 million in planning funds through Budget 2025.
“Work is underway to assess the condition and functionality of rural hospitals to identify necessary capital planning solutions that will upgrade infrastructure and better meet the needs of rural communities,” said Minister LaGrange’s office. “This program will expedite the time between planning and construction, getting projects done sooner to support rural communities.”
Minister LaGrange’s office says that The Rural Health Facilities Revitalization Program was approved with total funding of $140 million to execute more than 40 projects in rural communities across the province. In addition to changes in Cardston’s and Milk River’s facilities being supported this year through Budget 2025, Minister LaGrange’s office says, include Raymond Health Centre’s emergency room redevelopment project and Raymond Health Centre laboratory and diagnostic imaging renovation project along with many others across the province of Alberta.
“The program funds strategic capital projects at rural health facilities to help ensure Albertans can access the health care services they need as close to home as possible,” said Minister LaGrange’s office.
