On Tuesday, the Town of Milk River received $7.74 million through the Alberta Municipal Water/Wastewater Partnership to assist in the much-needed development of effluent irrigation and wastewater lagoon upgrades.
“Council and the Town of Milk River are excited with the long-awaited announcement of this project,” said Mayor Larry Liebelt. “It will address the environmental concerns of the aging wastewater lagoon infrastructure and will provide the necessary capacity for future growth of the Town of Milk River. In co-operation with local farmers the use of effluent irrigation shows the forward thinking of Council, being able to combine resources and technology showing responsibility to the environment and the farming industry.”
Alberta’s government is providing $179.5 million in grants across Alberta to support 122 road, bridge, community airport and water projects, intended to grow the economy and create jobs.
“The contribution from Alberta’s government will help the residents of the Town of Milk River feel confident in their water system and will facilitate the growth of the town,” said Taber-Warner MLA Grant Hunter. “This support from the province represents the Government of Alberta’s commitment to supporting the growing prosperity of the Town of Milk River and rural Alberta.”
